5/17/12 – Today’s Airshow Updates

There hasn’t been any new MAJOR updates but I decided to post this anyway to keep you in the loop.

American Airpower Museum

It is now confirmed the Grumman TBM Avenger will be flying at the 2012 American Airpower Museum Memorial Day Celebration.

Also if you want to buy admission or dinner tickets at a discount, now is the time to do it as time is ticking away.

Arrival Information

As of now it looks like a C-130J from Rhode Island will come in sometime this weekend and the Blue Angels will arrive on Monday afternoon. Hopefully I’ll post some more updates tomorrow.

Mach 1 Productions

Last but certainly not least I would like to give Mach 1 Productions some recognition.

These are the guys who work behind the scenes and provide sound and communication services. Without them the show would not be possible.

W2lie.net will be hosting its annual airshow live stream again this year.

On their website they will have a live feed that allows you to hear audio from Republic Tower, Airboss and other important frequencies so you can hear all the action that is going on at Republic and the Beach.

They also have all the airshow frequencies on their airshow page, so you can manually type them into your scanner and listen to them.

WHLI 1100AM will also be back this year broadcasting the airshow narration.

5/16/12 – American Airpower Museum to get EA-6 Prowler and EA-18 Growler

Here is some more great news!

From the American Airpower Museum Facebook:

“A rumor is buzzing…..looks like there is potential for some more guests on our ramp on static display. Appears the Navy may be bringing in an EA-6B, and possibly an E/F-18 Growler. Thanks to our friends at Northrop Grumman for this one!”

So here is the current line-up for the Memorial Day Celebration:

* The only time the EA-6 and EA-18 will be flying will be for arrival and departure. It will be on static display for the Memorial Day Celebration.

5/16/12 – F-22 looks OK, Arrival Info, Blue Angels Ernie, BFCU Correction

Hello guys and gals!

Here is some more important airshow information.

F-22 Raptor

According to an statement issued by Air Combat command it looks like the F-22 is a GO for Jones Beach!

“The recent restrictions put on the F-22 will not affect the F-22 Single Ship Demo program. The Andrews AFB and Jones Beach Air Shows will be supported as scheduled.”

Also it has looks like there are no restrictions on maneuvurs so they will fly their normal demonstration!

This is very good news. As stated before the F-22 will be arriving May 24th and will be based out of Long Island’s MacArthur Airport.

“Ernie”

It looks like good Ol’ Fat Albert is undergoing some aircraft maintenance.

In the mean time the Blue Angels will fly their back up C-130 Ernie. The good news is the demonstration should be the same and it’s not often you see a regular painted C-130 do those maneuvers.

Right now this isn’t 100% confirmed but it seems pretty probable.

Arrival information:

I will be putting together a comprehensive list about arrivals and such later in the week but for now here is some rambling about upcoming events.

It looks like Snowbirds #10 and #11 will come into Republic either Monday or Tuesday, and the rest of the team will come in late Thursday or even Friday.

As far as the Blue Angels go it looks like a C-130 will come on Sunday to install the safety gear and maybe #7 will also show on Sunday. The rest of the team should arrive Monday or possibly even Tuesday.

Also John Klatt’s trailer arrived the other day so you should expect his aircraft to be buzzing around soon.

Again this is just speculation up to this point and hopefully ill have better information that I can release to you later on.

Airshow date clarification:

If you have followed our 2012 airshow coverage you probably know that the airshow will take place May 26th – May 27th at Jones Beach State Park. There has been some confusion though because there was a misprint in Long Island Parent Magazine’s April/May stating that the airshow takes place on May 28th – May 29th. The Bethpage Federal Credit Union issued this statement in response:

“Fans, please note a correction for Long Island Parent Magazine’s April/May issue — the Bethpage Air Show will take place on Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27 – NOT on May 28 or 29. Please share this correct information with your friends! Thank you.”

5/15/12 – More F-22 Concerns

Here we go again.

Just like last year there are more concerns regarding the F-22 Raptor’s oxygen system.

According to CNN:

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has mandated that all F-22 flights “remain within the proximity of potential landing locations” to ensure the ability to recover and land should a pilot run into “unanticipated physiological conditions,”

Right now it is too early to speculate on how this will affect the airshow but I’ll keep you posted if anything changes.

5/13/12 – Airshow Week Updates

As airshow week comes closer, more and more information will be released. So far here is what I have to discuss with with you.

F-22 Information

As expected, it is officially confirmed that the F-22 Demo team will be based out of Long Island’s MacArthur Airport. According to the press release they will be staying there from May 24th-May29th. So I assume that they will arrive sometime Thursday, attend the practice show on Friday, perform at the airshow on Saturday and Sunday and leave Tuesday.

Also please take note that MacArthur Airport is not spotter friendly and if you attempt to pull over and watch the planes you will most likely be asked to leave by the Suffolk County Police Departments Airport Operations Section and the MacArthur Airport Police. I strongly advise that you do not attempt to watch the F-22 from MacArthur. The F-22 typically does flybys over Republic Airport and they will put on a spectacular demonstration over the beach.

Press Release

Heritage Flight Information:

According to Air Combat Commandthe USAF Heritage Flight with the F-22 and P-51 will ONLY take place on Saturday May, 26th. The attending P-51 is expected to be “Bald Eagle”.

Arrival/Departure Information:

Since there is no information for public release regarding arrival and departure information at this point, all information is speculation.

So far here is what is looks like (This is all speculation on my part, I could be completely wrong):

5/20/12: ANG C-130 Arrival (early afternoon) to install arresting gear. The C-130 should be gone within a couple of hours
5/20/12: Blue Angel #7 Arrival? Usually Blue Angel #7 comes a day before the team arrives to test the arresting gear

5/20/12:I expect some civilian performers to arrive
5/21/12: Fat Albert to come early AM, rest of the team in the afternoon.

Again this is all speculation, hopefully I’ll have better information for you guys at the end of the week.

5/14/12: Just as a clarification the “Zero” will be a “Tora Tora Tora Zero” which is actually an AT-6 Texan modified to look like a Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero.

The Corsair and P-51 are now confirmed to participate in the Memorial Day Celebration.

The American Airpower Museum is also selling admission tickets early at a discount. One of their hottest deals is the Photographers pass which gives you admission for the whole airshow weekend. For more information click here.

Here is some news regarding the American Airpower Museum.

The American Airpower Museum just recently released their aircraft/armor lineup for the 2012 Memorial Day Weekend Celebration

Flying/Static Display:

You will also have a front row view to all of the Jones Beach Airshow aircraft landing, departing and performing low passes and fly-bys.

Here are some activities to expect for this years Memorial Day Weekend Celebration:
